MAINTENANCE PRUNING PROGRAM

Maintenance pruning or shearing of plants under this program is applied to new growth to encourage the plants to grow naturally in character and maturity. New growth is defined as plant growth that has occurred within the last twelve (12) months.

Pruning of Shrubs

We will prune deciduous and evergreen shrubs once per season at an appropriate time for each plant species. Therefore, all plants will not be pruned at the same time. We will remove dead or damaged portions and remove minor crowded or crossing branches from the center of the plant to allow light and better circulation to reach the usually shaded interior. We will remove any upright vegetative water sprouts from the branches. We will prune the plant for general size control for proper spacing away from other plant material or buildings.

Pruning of Trees up to twelve (12) feet

We will prune deciduous trees once per season. We will remove minor upright vegetative water sprouts from branches and any suckers growing from the roots at the base of the tree once per season. We will remove dead or damaged portions and remove any crowded or crossing branches from the center of the plant to allow light and better circulation to reach the usually shaded interior. We will remove lower branches to provide clearance for people, vehicles, or buildings. We will take care to not remove important branches that provide a privacy screen or shade that you wish to maintain. We will remove incidental branches as needed to control out of place growth.

Pruning or Shearing of Hedges

In general, the bottom of hedges should be wider than the top to allow for light to reach the lower branches. Along with light shearing we will hand prune small leaf hedges, such as boxwood and yew, to thin them out once during the season after the majority of growth has occurred. We will shear small leaf hedges, such as privet, with gas shears up to three (3) times during the season. Large leaf hedges will be sheared or pruned once per year according to the Agreement Schedule.

Pruning of Flowering Vines

We will prune all flowering vines to maintain size and structure.

Debris Removal and Disposal

We will remove all landscape debris generated by our activities when work is completed for the day.

Pruning for Rejuvenation or Restoration

As the landscape matures, other procedures may be required such as rejuvenation, corrective or restoration pruning to remove major and substantial crowded or crossing branches, to minimize the mature size of the plant, or to correct a plant’s natural character. We will consult with you whenever we believe that these procedures are needed and perform the work, upon your approval, at an additional charge.

Exclusions

This pruning program does not include non-ornamental fruiting trees and vines.
